Develop a Biozone Algorithm within the Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) Accounting for Impact of On-Site Waste Water
Title – Develop a Biozone Algorithm within the Soil & Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) Accounting for Impact of On-Site Waste Water
Project Leader – Santhi Chinnasamy, Ph.D.
Activities –
- Reviewed the existing literature on the biozone that develops in soil matrix due to on-site septic system effluent delivery and the fate and transport of nutrients from on-site septic through subsurface soil zone and the water quality impacts on ground water and surface water.
- Information on different types of septic tank systems is being collected.
- Conceptualization and methodology for modeling within watershed model, SWAT, is being developed.
- The developed model will be tested to study the impacts of various types of septic tank systems on watershed water quality. A user-friendly Arc View GIS interface will be developed.
