UN 2023 Water Conference Livestream – TAMU and IBM feature, Mar. 22 @ 2:30 central time

March 2023

According to the World Health Organization, two billion people live in countries experiencing intense #water stress. Half of the global population, or 4.2 billion people, lack safely managed sanitation services. In fact, the gap between global water and demand is projected to reach 40% by 2030 if current practices continue. This is a global threat to food security, health, economic growth and the environment.

Accelerating international efforts to achieve a water secure world will be at the heart of deliberations at the UN 2023 Water Conference, in New York from 22 to 24 March 2023. The conference, co-hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Republic of Tajikistan, is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to raise awareness, define a roadmap and advance the water agenda.

During the Conference, IBM will provide the first formal impact and innovation updates on two ongoing projects at the intersection of water and sustainable agriculture, supported by the #IBMSustainabilityAccelerator program. Michael Jacobs, Sustainability & Social Innovation Leader at IBM CSR, will speak at the side event “Water Management Innovation for Underserved Populations" alongside Toon Segeren, Director Deltares International, Karolin Erdmann, Head of Partnerships &Innovation @Make-IT Alliance, GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit / German development agency), Raghavan Srinivasan, Resident Director, Blackland Research and Extension Center, Texas A&M AgriLife, and Mary Mathews, Head of the Water and Ocean Portfolio, United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
