Honorary Doctorate Awarded to Dr. Izaurralde

We are proud to announce that this week Dr. R. César Izaurralde was presented with his honorary doctoral degree by the Universidad Nacional De Córdoba. The prestigious Doctor Honoris Causa was created for Dr. Izaurralde in March 2013, but had to be presented in person to be officially awarded.

The official ceremony was held on November 13, 2014 at the Universidad Nacional De Córdoba, in a part of the university known as the Salon De Grados. The Universidad Nacional De Córdoba was founded in 1613, marking over 400 years since its creation. The Salon De Grados is a part of a beautiful historic section of the university known as the Jesuit Block which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Dr. R. César Izaurralde currently holds part-time Research Professor appointments with the Department of Geographical Sciences, University of Maryland- College Park and Texas AgriLife Research and Extension, Texas A&M University. Dr. Izaurralde is a soil scientist with expertise in agriculture and ecosystem modeling. His current research aims at developing robust modeling methods for evaluating the impacts of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems and water resources. His research also examines mitigation options in agriculture and energy through soil carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emission reductions, and the sustainable production of biofuels. Dr. Izaurralde has contributed to the two national assessments conducted in 2000 and 2008 to evaluate the impacts of climate change on agriculture, water resources, and terrestrial ecosystems. Dr. Izaurralde is Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America, and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
